Mummifying Tomatoes in Year 3/4

As part of our work on mummification, we mummified tomatoes! We followed the mummification process, which uses salts and oils to preserve the body.

The idea is that the salt mixture dehydrates the tomato. The microbes that cause decay need water to do their job, so dehydrating the tomato slows down the process of decay!

Subtraction Basketball and Egyptian God and Goddess Top Trumps in Year 3/4

We have been very busy this week in Maths and in History.

As the weather prevented Ash Class (CM) from going to Forest School, we played a game of subtraction basketball. The children were put into their house teams and then worked together to subtract calculations using the column method. Miss Moffat was particularly mean and put calculations in there that involved a LOT of exchanging. If the children got the answers correct, they could shoot a hoop from either a further away line for 2 points, or a closer line for 1 point. It was a close match between the Whales and the Sharks. Miss Moffat had to take it to penalty shootouts! After a close game, the Whales were eventually victorious!

In History, the children have been making Top Trump cards to play with friends. Over the past few weeks they have been researching Egyptian Gods and Goddesses. They’re fascinating! The children had to think about their strength and their value. It was a pleasure to listen to their conversations about the qualities each God/Goddess had.
